Why Maui Belongs on Your List

Maui is the Hawaiian island most people picture when they daydream about Hawaii — and it earns that reputation. Between the resort beaches of Wailea and Ka'anapali, the sunrise at the summit of Haleakala, and the winding drive along the Road to Hana, there's enough here to fill a week without ever feeling rushed.

This is also one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world, and for good reason. Many resorts are built specifically around adults-only pools, oceanfront soaking tubs, and a level of quiet luxury that's hard to match elsewhere. Families do just as well here, with calmer beaches on the west and south shores and plenty of snorkeling right off the sand.

The catch is that Maui isn't cheap, and not every resort delivers the same experience for the price. Flight costs and long travel days make it even more important to get the details right the first time. CxC Travel helps you choose the right resort and room category for what you're actually after — and our partner perks can mean a real upgrade or resort credit at a destination where every dollar counts.

What to Know Before You Go

🚗

Rent a car

Maui's resort areas are spread out and taxis are expensive. A rental car gives you the freedom to actually explore the island, not just the resort pool.

🌋

Book Haleakala sunrise ahead of time

Reservations to watch sunrise from the volcano summit are capped and sell out weeks in advance. This isn't something you can decide on a whim once you land.

🛣️

Give the Road to Hana a full day

It's only about 60 miles, but with waterfall stops and hairpin turns, rushing it defeats the purpose. Leave early and don't overplan the stops.

🐋

Visit in winter for whales

Humpback whales migrate to Maui's waters roughly December through April, and you can often spot them from shore, no boat required.

🧴

Pack reef-safe sunscreen

Hawaii law restricts sunscreens with oxybenzone and octinoxate to protect the coral reefs. Bring reef-safe sunscreen or buy it locally.

💰

Ask about resort fees

Daily resort fees are common in Maui and can add up. We'll make sure you know the full cost upfront, not just the nightly rate.
